Driving and Safety Rules
The drive from Muscat is roughly 240 kilometers. While the highways are excellent, the final stretch up the mountain is unpaved. A 4WD vehicle is heavily advised to handle the steep gradients safely. Read 4x4 Requirements for more details.
Hikers and campers must pack out all trash. Leave no trace to protect the environment. Never camp directly on the immediate canyon rim. Start all hikes early in the day so you return before dark.
